Using Morpheus

Search

Select a type of media to search for by choosing the All Types option, then enter your search criteria and press Search. You also have the ability to perform multiple searches and downloads at once!

Image:Mg-um-search-01.gif

To organize and target your search, you can use the Narrow Search option. You can also right-click on the columns to decide what information should show (as shown above).

If you are having difficulty finding the file you want, you should try again later by clicking the Search More button or leave a search result open. Each time someone is connected to the network, their server is scanned for files adding to the new results. Unlike other networks, we do not limit your searching capabilities or results.

Please see the Searching section of the FAQ for further help on this topic

Share

Help the Morpheus user community by sharing! Morpheus includes sharing features that make it easy to find and download content. Your hard disks store the files that other users search for and interact with. Because of this, you need to make sure you only share the files that you are willing to allow other Morpheus users to be able to search for and download. Morpheus will only allow other users to view and download items in the shared list viewable in the library. Please share responsibly.

Media files can be shared in two ways, within the My Files Tab or directly from the Preferences button shown to the right.

To share, go to Preferences > Folders and select the Add button and then browse your disk(s) to share individual folders and subfolders. Using the file chooser window, browse to the location of the files that you would like to share, and select Open. Repeat this process to share multiple folders in different locations.

Parental Control

Morpheus includes password protected Parental Controls. These new functions give you the ability to add some extra layers of protection, security, and preferences to your Morpheus experience.

To access these functions, navigate to Preferences > Parental Control.

If this is your first time accessing these settings, you should create a password that is then used for all the functions in this area. Please choose a password that is not easily guessable, yet something you will remember.

  • For added control, you have the ability to create your own filter sets which will be applied when searching.
  • Additionally, you can decide to protect Morpheus' search field from performing any searches as a second layer of protection. Only entering the parental control password can disable this option.
  • Lastly, for the greatest level of control preventing others from using Morpheus without your permission or presence, you can choose to check the option to password protect entire Morpheus application as shown above which allows you to minimize Morpheus or close it, both becoming password protected. This gives you the ability to leave your shared computer alone with peace of mind, whether you choose to leave Morpheus open or exit the program.

Player

Included in Morpheus is an integrated Morpheus Media Player, including all the standard functionality of Windows Media Player. The controls are always visible no matter what tab you are in, so you can easily navigate through Morpheus while never losing the ability to control the player. It works seamlessly with your Library to allow you to choose to add to the Morpheus Playlist or begin playing immediately. For the best functionality, Windows Media Player 9 is recommended. With the playlist manager, you can create, play - and save playlists in the popular M3U format!

Image:Mg-um-player-01.gif

  • Right click on the Media Player Theater to enable or disable visualizations when playing audio. Additionally, other options are available if playing video or in the full screen mode.
  • To disable using Morpheus as your default player, disable this option in Preferences > Media and Web by unchecking the make default player setting.

My Files

You have all the basic Windows functionalities you're accustomed to and much more. Morpheus includes sorting of downloaded files by type, ability to select multiple files, 'wipe' files, and create Magnet links.

  • Magnet weblinks allow you to search, download, and share files using links on webpages. Take advantage of this new feature with sites such as Bitzi.com, which allow you to browse for quality files, rate them, and click on magnet links to begin a search or download within Morpheus for the exact file based on a digital fingerprint. Within My Files, you can right-click on shared files to create magnet links to email friends or copy to clipboard.

Image:Mg-um-myfiles-01.gif

Magnet links are usable by simply pasting them into any browser address bar to begin a search or download within Morpheus or, by creating a hyperlink of them on a webpage.

  • Wiping files allow you to completely and permanently erase files when deleting them from your library, using a wipe algorithm ; as opposed to simply sending to the recycle bin where the file even when deleted from there is still recoverable, even when deleted.

To enable this option when deleting a file, navigate to Preferences > Folders and check the Always wipe files when deleting option. Please be careful with this option in deleting files, as they will not be recoverable.

New to Morpheus 5.1 is integration with iTunes. Now you can add audio and video files from Morpheus to the iTunes library with ease. Simply highlight the file or files you want to move into iTunes, right click, select iTunes > Export Selection to iTunes Library. You can also select Export All Files to iTunes Library. Another method is to highlight your file(s) and drag and drop them into iTunes.

Image:Mg-um-exportitunes.gif

By default, Morpheus will automatically send your newly downloaded files to iTunes once you exit Morpheus. You can disable this in Morpheus by unchecking the box at Preferences > Folders > Synchronize Downloaded Files to iTunes on exit.

Perhaps you already have a favorite playlist in Morpheus. Now you can use the same playlist in iTunes with just a few clicks. In Morpheus, open your playlist. Then click on the playlist's drop down menu and select Export to iTunes. Your playlist is now ready to go in iTunes.
